The Chidamoyo Trust ran a plant stall at the 45th Sandhurst Donkey Derby on 30th May. Despite typical Bank Holiday Monday weather having been forecast, we were hoping for a successful day. The aim was not only to sell plants to raise funds for Chidamoyo but also to raise the profile of the Trust within the local community. We arrived at the field early with the car full of plants to set up the stall. Fortunately we had Chris's gazebo to provide us some much needed protection from the weather! Gilly and Lindy had raided their gardens and along with generous donations from a number of members of the Sandhurst and Crowthorne church, we had a bumper crop of seedlings, house plants and vegetable plants for sale. Kirsty and Lindy visited some of the other plant stalls to carry out some undercover research to decide pricing!
The gates opened at 11.30am with lots of people arriving. We had plenty of interest in the stall and with some expert selling from Ryzard we made a great start, the tradescantia being by far the most popular item! Whilst it was overcast all day, the rain held off until 3pm when the heavens opened resulting in the majority of people rushing back to their cars and heading home. Despite the soggy finish we had a successful day, selling nearly all of our plants and raising £249.85.
