Writing Articles for Chidamoyo Online

To add anything to Chidamoyo Online, you need to be a member. Joining is free and relatively simple:

1. Click the "Join Now!" link on the left of the page, in the Membership Box.

2. Make up a login name for yourself and type it in the "Login Name" box. Good login names are only made up of lowercase letters and numbers. For example: user7

3. Type your email address in the "Email Address" box. This is the address notifications will be sent to about what's happening with things you've added to the site.

4. Make up a password and put it in both the "Password" and "Password (confirm)" boxes. There are two boxes to make sure it was correctly typed both times. Good passwords will have a combination of lowercase letters and numbers in them.

5. If you'd like your password emailed to you, click in the box.

6. Click the "Register" button.

You'll then see a success page.

Now, to add a picture to the site:

1. Put you your "Login Name" from above in the username box, and password in the password box. The click the "Login" button.

2. Click "My Content" in the Welcome box on the left of the page.

3. Click the "New..." button. Now click the circle next to "Picture" and click the "Add" button.

4. Click the "Browse..." button and find the picture you want to add to the site. The picture must be a .jpg, .jpeg, or .gif file.

5. Click the "Save" button.

Images can only be shown as part of an Article. Editing and renaming images is left as an excercise for the reader.

To add an article, do the following:

1. Login as described above.

2. If you'd like to have a picture as part of the Article, add it to the site now as described above.

3. Click the "My Content" link in the Welcome box on the left of the site to take you to the things you've put on the site.

4. Click the "New..." button. Now click the circle next to "Article" and click the "Add" button.

5. Fill in the Title field. This is what will appear in the list of Articles on the site and should be no more than a few words.

6. Fill in the Description field. This should be a few lines describing what the Article will be about.

7. Type the text of the Article into the "Main Text" field.

8. If you want a picture to appear to the top right of the Article, select it from the drop-down list nextto "Picture".

9. Click "Save" to save the Article. Only you will be able to see it. Click the brown "View" link at the top of the page to see what it will look like. You can also click the "Save and View" button to do this.

10. When you're happy with how the Article looks, click the brown "Submit for Public Viewing" link at the top of the page. Enter anything you'd like to tell the person who will publish your Article into the "Comments" box and click the "Submit" button.

11. Wait until you receive an email. This will either tell you that your Article is now available to everyone on the site, or will tell you what changes you need to make.

12. If, at any stage, you want to stop other people reading the Article, click the brown "Retract" link at the top of the page, and then click the "Retract" button that appears.

Apart from that, just try things out and see what happens! You won't be able to damage anything, and if you want to get back to your stuff, click on the "My Content" link. To get back to the start of the site, click on the "HOME" link in the top left of the page.
