Charity in Crowthorne receives wide ecumenical support

When the Chidamoyo Trust was registered in September 2001, the generous response from the Ecumenical Christian Community was completely unforeseen.
First the Church of the Holy Ghost, the Crowthorne Catholic Church, decided to adopt the Trust as its charitable project. Then people from all denominations began to support our work. We received a cheque for £200 St Peter’s, the Anglican Parish Church in Wrecclesham and £500 from CTC (Churches Together in Crowthorne).
In January, 2002, when we undertook to raise £4,000 to build a much-needed AIDS Education Centre, support was so generous that the amount was raised in time for a cheque to be handed over at the World AIDS Conference in Barcelona in July. Plans have been drawn up, and bricks have been made to build the centre. Because of termite damage, the hospital’s chapel had to be pulled down, so the centre is going to function as a Chapel as well.
The Churches’ continued support is overwhelming. Recently we received a donation of £1,700 from the Church at the Pines, Bracknell and £150 from St John’s, the Anglican Parish Church in Crowthorne. Prayer support and general interest are also very important to us. A talk on the work of the Trust has been organized at the Crowthorne Baptist Church in October.
We are very grateful to the Christian Community for their continued support.
