The Chidamoyo Trust, a Crowthorne – based charity has been involved in the building of an AIDS Education Centre in remote northern Zimbabwe since its inception. We have watched its development from the plans on the drawing board, through the making of bricks from local clay, the building of walls, the laying of cement floors and putting on of the roof. Now except for glass in the windows, and a few other finishing touches the building is complete. It consists of an auditorium, 45’X60’, a library, 3 store rooms and an office. Over £10,000 was raised,
The building is already in use and will be officially opened on 3rd of April, 2005. Gillian Withers, the chairman of The Chidamoyo Trust will travel to Zimbabwe to be present at the opening. The centre will be called “The Paul Graystone Centre” after a local Crowthorne parishioner who was very supportive of the charity when it was first formed. He had held a vision of a local charity with low overheads, which was easily accountable to supporters and he was pleased to see the formation of the charity before he passed away.
Our thanks go to all the residents of Crowthorne who have supported us so generously.
